Maze’s Unique Approach

img peyronie s disease maze s unique approach 2x

At Maze Men’s Health, we specialize in Peyronie’s disease treatment (for curved penis) for men across Westchester, NYC, Connecticut, and New Jersey. Led by Dr. Michael Werner, one of the first physicians involved in the Xiaflex clinical trials, our team combines experience, innovation, and compassion. Most men see significant improvement without surgery and nearly all are able to achieve functional erections with proper treatment.

Symptoms & Diagnosis

Peyronie’s Disease affects up to 9% of men and is caused by the formation of fibrotic scar tissue (plaque) inside the penis.

Common symptoms include:

  • Penile curvature or indentation
  • Pain, especially during erections
  • Erectile dysfunction or instability during intercourse
  • A palpable lump or “hard spot”

Diagnosis involves:

  • A detailed history and physical exam
  • Ultrasound to locate plaque and assess blood flow
  • Measurement of curvature during erection

Early diagnosis and treatment by an experienced men’s sexual health specialist greatly improve outcomes.

Treatment Options

Maze offers a comprehensive range of Peyronie’s Disease treatments, customized to each patient’s stage and symptoms.

Oral Therapies

Medications such as Pentoxyfylline may help reduce inflammation and limit scar formation during the active phase. Vitamin E, Tamoxifen, and other oral drugs show limited evidence of benefit.

Injections (Intralesional Therapy)

Xiaflex (Collagenase Clostridium Histolyticum) is the only FDA-approved Peyronie’s Disease treatment. It breaks down scar tissue and, when combined with stretching and molding, reduces curvature by an average of 35%.

Dr. Werner’s expertise in precise Xiaflex injection technique ensures optimal results and minimal discomfort.

Mechanical & Shockwave Therapies

  • Penile traction devices and vacuum erection devices (VED) help straighten and lengthen the penis after injections.
  • Low-Intensity Shockwave Therapy (Li-ESWT) can reduce pain and improve curvature in early stages of disease.

Surgery

Surgery is reserved for men with stable disease for 6–12 months or severe curvature impacting sexual function. Options include:

  • Plication surgery (shortening the longer side)
  • Plaque excision with grafting
  • Penile prosthesis for men with both curvature and erectile dysfunction

Combination Therapy

Many patients benefit from a combination of Xiaflex injections, traction therapy, and manual stretching, tailored for maximum improvement.

Results

What to Expect

Most men experience significant improvement in penile curvature, pain, and erectile function within months of starting Peyronie’s Disease treatment.

Results depend on:

  • Disease stage (active vs. stable)
  • Severity of curvature
  • Compliance with post-injection stretching

Even when complete straightening isn’t possible, most regain comfortable, functional erections and satisfying intimacy.

Management & Risks

img peyronie s disease management risks 2x

Maze provides continuous follow-up to monitor healing and prevent complications.

Risks of treatment are minimal and may include mild bruising or swelling.

The rare but serious risk of penile rupture occurs almost exclusively when sexual activity resumes too soon after injection, underscoring the importance of following post-treatment instructions closely.

Our team emphasizes safe, evidence-based management and open communication throughout your care.
